The Helio Sequence

I've been inspired by new music lately.
A couple of months ago I dated a guy Ace*, who put me on to all sorts of new sounds (seriously, he made me a mix CD and a CD book containing his Top 30 favorite bands- I totally thought we were destined for marriage after that). Out of that book two of the greatest gifts he brought to the table, beside that great breakfast that his mom used to make him as a kid and the fact that he left me quite confused by Words vs. Actions (feel the sarcasm), was Bon Iver and The Helio Sequence.

With open arms I latched on to Helio. Immediately the stalking began and I was Googling and Wiki-ing like a mad man... only to follow with, you guessed it.... You-Tubing.

Well, last night I finally got a chance to see them at the Williamsburg Music Hall. The venue has been remodeled since my last visit and OH MY GOD is it GREAT! It's lounge-esque, bar-ish and all around open, with an amazing sound system and CLEAN bathrooms!!

However, the point of this is not the space, it's not about the lack of men, although, don't get me wrong, there was no shortage of 'boys', it's not about the fact that we made Happy Hour and got four vodka tonics for the price of two! (What?! I couldn't resist -I LOVE a sale!) It is about the fact that Brandon Summers voice, that he'd actually lost and had to re-learn how to use, reached out to me as if I were the only person in that room. If you love live shows as I do, you understand the importance of engaging with an album and then having it come to fruition when you hear them live.

I recommend this band to anyone, who appreciates, lyrical content and stupendous drums and guitar solos.

Start with these two:

Lately (by far the best breakup song EVER)

and

Keep your eyes ahead

ok... FINE! here is a bonus track too!

*Ace is my attempt at making him a bad ass. But really he was "Preppy, with an edge" his quote, not mine.

By the way, Bon Iver's lead singer is by far my new favorite crush. The stalking of him continues. I will do a post on them soon. They are by far to important to share a post.
